Where to Live if You Are Retired and Still Looking for Job?

In this uncertain economy, even retirees with fixed pension don’t feel secure. Many are looking to relocate where they can lower their expenses and have at least part-time job to help them to sustain. Here is the List of so called boomer cities or best cities for retirees.      

                                       1. Charlottesville, Virginia, a small college town along the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains featuring the University of Virginia and over 120 wineries, and famous Monticello, famous mountain-top home of Thomas Jefferson. There is another attraction, you can drive a short distance to Shenandoah National Park and watch there the magnificent foliage in red, yellow, gree, indigo and orange colors.

 

2. Bellevue, Washington, the city where the skyline can be seen beyond the Evergreen Point Bridge crossing Lake Washington. Over 145 companies decided to open their headquarters in Belevue, including T-Mobile, Microsoft and Expedia. This city which is located in proximity to Seattle and Tacoma, added about twenty thousand jobs in the last year. And this is not all what Bellevue can offer. There are 1,844 acres of park and green open spaces, and boating activities on one of the abundant water lakes of Puget Sound.

3. Huntsville, Alabama is the city of several industries which hold up well in this uncertain economy. Pleanty of opportunities in government jobs at the Redstone Arsenal, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, in health-care industry vs Hunrsville Hospital System and jobs for educators in the University of Alabama-Huntsville. If you want just visit this southern city, there is populat with tourists the Davidson Center for Space Exploration.

4. Bismark, North Dakota is well-known for 132-acre park with numerous statues, memorials, and trails for outdoor activities. You can fing jobs in the North Dakota State Capitol Building. These government jobs tend to pay not very big salaries, but provide generous health and pension benefits that is very important for your family in today’s economy, but private companies with higher salaries cannot compete with.

5. Rochester, Minnesota is known with the Mayo Clinic providing excellent healthcare with 28.000 workers employed there. The city also has a well developed service industry. Its restaurant and lodges cater to about 1 million visitors a year.

                                       6. Ithaca, New York is a scenic town with its famous waterfalls and Finger Lakes. The home of one of the best universtities in the U.S., Cornell University and less known Ithaca College, thanks to these educational institutions can provide opportunities for finding a good job and keep you there. Good news for baby boomers looking for a job: at Cornell University, 43% of employees are age 50 or older.

                                       7. State College, Pennsylvania is the home town of Pennsylvania State University where 40,000 students study. there you can even find a retirement community on campus. Residents take free courses, watch football and basketball games, and have a good time in on-site ice creamery and a scenic view of the mountains.

8. Lubbock, Texas offers famous sculprure garden of Texas Tech Unuversity. The Helen DeVitt Jones auditorium has numerous public programs and events to entertain you.

 

 

9. Charleston, West Virginia is a town where the healthcare industry is a queen. The healthcare industry is recession free and is doing well in this economic turnmoil.

                                       10. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the city tied Washington, D.C. as the city with the lowest jobless rate in the country. And the cost of living here is far lower, making Oklahoma city a better spot for retirees who are looking to cut their expenses. In addition, this state capital city offers 33 public and provate beautifully maintained golf courses for activities outdoor and more than 30 pristine lakes nearby.
