Want to know what are America’s prettiest towns? Here they are in diverse of locations, sizes and architectural styles, but equal in their preserved natural beauty and  small town charm:

  1. Rockport, Maine, or “the River” was settled in 1769 by Robert Thorndike. It was known as Goose River Village until 1852. In the past shipbuilding, ice and the manufacture of lime (calcium oxide) were important early industries there.  In 1993 film “The man Without a Face” staring Mel Gibson, and in 2001 film “In the Bedroom” were both filmed in Rockport. Today this small, charming town is a popular tourist destination and art colony.
  2. Mendocino, California, founded in the mid-19th century. a tiny coastal gem which is located 4 hours drive north of San Francisco. This small town is a haven for artists and nature lovers.
  3. Aspen, Colorado, originally a silver-mining town it has transformed into a ski resort in the mid-20th century. A breathtaking Nature’s retreat, surrounded by aspen-laden mountains.
  4. Hanover, New Hampshire, “the quintessential New England college town, complete with whitewashed colonial-style buildings shaded by sugar maples that turn blazing red in the fall.”
  5. Marfa, Texas, a classic small Texas town. It has been reborn as a center for the contemporary arts.
  6. Springdale, Utah, a sleepy Mormon farm town until 1909. Now tourists discovered its brilliant sanstone canyons, a true delight of the Virgin River beneath the full splendor of Zion canyon’s red rocks.
  7. Burlington, Vermont, a small town that has it all: “a brick pedestrian marketplace, Vermont’s iconic white steeples and rolling hills spilling down toward and green waterfront on Lake Champlain,” says B. T. Dunn, co-author of the 101 Best Outdoor Towns.
  8. Bislee, Arozona, a great town for walking. It was in the past a ex-mining town, now bohemian, nestled in the foothills of Southern Arizona, just north of Mexican border.
  9. Cape may, New Jersey, is one of the prettiest towns at the Southern tip of New Jersey with beautiful old hotels and Victorian homes, bed & breakfasts, and an inviting, clean beach. Cape may is one of the best bird watching places on the East Coast.
  10. Annapolis, Maryland, a cute town with historic colonial and maritime past, cobblestone streets, ancient Victorian bed & breakfast and sailing on the Chesapeake. It is the Easts’s most romantic town.
  11. Lake Placid, New York, an unpretentious ski village with pine-speckled hills and pristine crystal lakes.
  12. Portsmouth, New Hampshire, historic southern New Hampshire port town, combining modern community, high tech businesses and a museum piece.
  13. New Hope, Pennsylvania, in picturesque Bucks County along the Delaware River, a town of natural beauty and historical charm. There you can find pleanty of great restaurants, music and small, family-owned shops.
  14. Flagstaff, Arizona, a lottle Western town with fine brick buildings and the majestic San Francisco peaks to the North.
  15. Newport, Rhode Island, famous with its summer cottages and mansions, and beautiful Ocean Drive, a 10-mile route winding along beaches, cliffs, and ocean.
  16. Galena, Illinois, a peaceful green little town in the northern corner of Illinois that barely changed since local boy Ulysses S. Grant was elected precident in 1868. A steamboating and lead-mining town in the past.
  17. Park City, Utah, looks like a candy village, thank to all the Victorian buildings, and located in the center of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains.
  18. Savannah, Georgia, founded in 1733, served as Georgia’s colonial capital and called “The Hostess City of the South.” This town is still remarkable thanks to its superb squares with dark green Spanish moss and cobbled riverport. Today Savannah is considered one of the livelyest colonial town in US.
  19. Bodie, California is a gold-mining ghost town in the high foothills of California’s Owens Valley, the place of a haunting beauty.
